Tattoo Set Up and Tear Down

Tattoo Set Up with a Tattoo Pen

1. Wash your hands at either of the two designated hand washing sinks.

2. Without touching anything, prep your station by unscrewing the tops of any jars required in

your setup process, and making sure all the supplies you need are accessible.

3. Return to the hand washing sink to wash hands a second time, and without touching

anything return to your station.

4. Using a pinching motion, grab one glove out of your box and put it on your dominant hand.

This now designates your dominant hand as your sanitary hand and your non dominant

hand as your clean hand. The ungloved hand (referred to as NG from now on) will be used

to open boxes, containers, bottles etc. Your gloved hand (referred to as G from now on) will

be used to place items in the sterile area.

5. NG hand: grab the Cavicide spray and spray down your table, stool, set up station, and any

other pertinent equipment (ie. arm rest etc.)

6. NG hand: grab your roll of station cover and open it. G hand: then pull the film over your setup area until all exposed surfaces are covered.

7. NG hand: open the dental bibs. G hand: grab one to place over top of your station cover. Then place a second dental bib on top, this will be used later.

8. NG hand: open the vaseline container. G hand: grab a sterile tongue depressor and scoop a small amount of vaseline out of the pot.

9. G hand: select an ink cup out of your previously opened jar. Place it on the tongue

depressor in the vaseline this will keep it stationary during the tattoo. At the same time grab

as many wash bottle bags as you need and place them on the dental bib as well.

10. G hand: rip off 5-10 fresh pieces of paper towel and place them on your dental bib. If 3-5

minutes have elapsed then take one and wipe down your table.

NG hand: Place your tattoo machine on your table and spray down thoroughly with

Cavicide.

11. G hand: select a razor out of the pre opened jar and place it on the dental bib.

12. NG hand: grab the box of needles you need and open it. G hand: select however many

needles from the box that you need. Repeat until you have all necessary sizes.

13. NG hand: grab your tincture of green soap solution and with your G hand grab a wash

bottle bag. Drop the bottle into the bag and place on the dental bib. Repeat this process

with your Stencil Gel and Distilled Water.

14. Remove your current glove and return to the sink to wash your hands, as per the initial

explanation. Without touching anything, return to your station.

15. Using a pinching motion grab one glove for your dominant hand, then using your gloved

hand select the second glove out of the box. This should all be done with very minimal

touching of the outside of the gloves. Now that both hands are gloved there will be no

clarification as to which hand to use.

16. With a fresh piece of paper towel, wipe down your machine. Place this on your dental bib.

17. Wipe down your table with a Cavicide wipe and your station is now ready!

Ink and Stencil Stuff can be poured for use with a fresh pair of gloves before the stencil is done and don’t

forget to close back up your supplies jars!

Tattoo Tear Down

1. When you finish the tattoo, carefully remove the needle from your tattoo machine and

place it in your designated sharps container along with any razors used. Remove any

covering from the table and put it into the designated garbage can. Carefully remove

your gloves, touching the skin of your hands as little as possible.

2. Next, wash your hands meticulously at the designated sink and dry them with a fresh

piece of paper towel.

3. When you return to your station put one glove onto your dominant hand. In the tear down

process this will be your contaminated hand while your NG hand remains clean.

4. G hand: Use a Cavicide wipe to wipe down the table, or with your NG hand spray a fresh

paper towel with Cavicide to wipe down the table. NG hand: Spray down your table with Cavicide and wait 3 minutes. G hand: then wipe it down with a Cavicide wipe. Your table is now clean.

5. G hand: carefully peel the barrier film off your machine then place the machine on the

table. The barrier film should stay on the dental bib.

6. G hand: carefully peel the edge of the underlying station cover off your station and gently

roll up the remaining biohazard waste into a burrito and place it into your garbage can.

All that should be in there is paper towel, wash bags, clip cord cover, tongue depressors

and your ink cups. Make sure your ink cup has a paper towel over it and that it does not

spill while you wrap everything up.*

* If you have excess ink during tear down, with your NG hand sprinkle Liquid

Solidifier over the ink cups (from 6” above to prevent contamination). The Liquid

Solidifier will turn the excess liquid into a gel and prevent any spillage.7. Remove your contaminated glove and return to the sink to wash your hands.

8. When you return to your station, spray down your table, machine, station, and any other

pertinent equipment (ie arm rests etc).

9. After 3 - 5 minutes put on a fresh pair of gloves and wipe down your machine with a

cavicide wipe. Wipe down your table and station with a paper towel and return your

machine to its place.

10. With the Swiffer WetJet, clean the floor area surrounding your station and dispose the

pad into the garbage can.
